The Blackhawk back in the day.

Sometimes you just hit the jackpot when digging through the bargain bin at the record store. This is what happened when I found this album at Crazy Rhythms in San Antonio, Texas. Although not a famous album by any stretch, this album sounds great.

This live set at the Blackhawk was recorded in August 1961. The recording equipment was actually next door at the Triple Deuce Club, which still stands today.

At only $8, I was thrilled with the rich recording and the shape it was in. There are many stories about this album, some being right on the back cover. That is the great thing about jazz albums. There is always great commentary and history to enjoy along with the set.

I am now on the hunt to track down volume two, which covers the Saturday night part of this gig. Wish me luck
