This record store day release was much anticipated. It’s been over a decade since new music has come out from Roy Hargrove. With Hargrove’s passing in 2018 it seemed that we lost so much great music from this current jazz generation. Everyone was excited to see that this release was coming out as he partnered with Mulgrew Miller 15 years ago.

Many audiophiles online proclaim that this is not a good recording. I have a different perspective. I hear this piece and think of a small jazz club tucked away somewhere with just a handful of people in the audience. The sound is very personal and simple.
It is true that it does not have a deep or resonant recording. It does sound as if the recording is made in the room versus through a more sophisticated manner. To me that does not lessen the value of hearing the piece and imagining myself sipping a cocktail in that jazz club.
Design excellence
I think I spent more time on the design of this album than I have on any other review. When I realized the subtle yet excellent graphic design, I was taken. Typography is a very engrossing concept for me and many others. When you look at the way they play off of different colors in the design it is impressive.
I made a mistake in the video in saying that the two names were the two main colors in the design concept. On the cover of the album it was actually the words “in harmony” that were in the color concept.
Either way the orange and bluish gray color concept is swapped in the cover design and the vinyl itself. I did a color match to verify that they were the exact same color. In my research the two colors are Perú and pastel gray.
